  1. Hi @Spaceboard, These CD's are all about education in electronics, and are also very useful as a resource (Schematics) for the electronics engineer and hobbyist. They are also interactive, with several thousand simulations and examples. As usual, made with German Grundlichkeit. I don't know if the eMule versions are complete, or lack FRANZIS newest updates. There is also a hardcopy version of this set, which may also be on the CD's. I have not checked and tested the downloads yet. Here you can read more about this set "Franzis Professionelle Schaltungstechnik (5 Doppelbande)": http://www.terrashop.de/77234386A/artikel.php?r=rel_list http://www.terrashop.de/12751412/isbn-3772343864/bk_info.php Enjoy ! Cryonic.

  3. Hi @Spaceboard, Please check out "FRANZIS" on eMule (122 hits). It's all in German, but excelent information! :o Hi @Jwildes, Here you have a brief explanation about certain file formats: Source: http://forums.afterdawn.com 1) What is a .BIN? What is a .CUE? What is an .ISO The .BIN / .CUE CD image format was made popular by the CDRWin software. Afterwards many programs have started supporting or partially supporting it, including: Nero, BlindWrite, CloneCD, FireBurner. The .CUE file contains the track layout information, while the .BIN file holds the actual data. .ISO is also a CD image format, but is sometimes used for 'ISO9660 format' (Standard, recognized by all applications) and sometimes for unique Easy CD ISO format. 2) I have download .BIN&.CUE/.ISO files - what to do with them? You can burn them to a CD-R or a CD-RW with: - Alcohol 120% - Excellent software, easy and yet very advanced (Burns ISO, BIN/CUE, CCD, CDI, BWT files!). - BlindWrite - Easy to use. - FireBurner - Also very good, a single .EXE file! - BurnAtOnce - A handy and FREE tool for burning .bin/.cue/.iso. Easy to use! - Nero - Many of you have this, but the older versions can't handle all image files (Please check for plugins updates). - CDRWin - This is the original BIN/CUE software. You can also mount image files as virtual CD-ROM drives using: - Alcohol. - Daemon Tools. There are also several softwares you can use to exploit & manipulate BIN/CUE files in various ways: - CDMage. - IsoBuster. 3) I have a .BIN file but no .CUE? .CUE can be made by using your Notepad. A typical Playstation (1 or 2) .CUE file looks like this: FILE "image-name.BIN" BINARY TRACK 1 MODE2/2352 INDEX 1 00:00:00 A typical PC CD-ROM .CUE looks like this: FILE "image-name.BIN" BINARY TRACK 01 MODE1/2352 INDEX 01 00:00:00 "image-name.BIN" being the name of the image file (IWDII.BIN, CIV3.BIN and so on...) Notice the difference of the track mode - PC-ROMs being Mode 1, Playstations CDs Mode 2 and (Super) Video CDs are also MODE2/2352. 4) How do I make .BIN/.CUE files? CDRWin or the BIN/CUE format is not ideal for distributing. BlindWrite suite and CloneCD perform a lot better in this purpose and can also handle various copy protections. Both of these softwares can also create .CUE files for increased compatibility. 5) I have a .BIN & .CUE, but my CD writing software can't locate the .BIN file? Edit the .CUE file with Notepad (Or similar) and verify that the FILE "C:\path\image.bin" matches the location of your image file. 6) My image file is IMAGE.BIN.EXE and I can't rename it! Read here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/23982 7) Sector sizes of CD image files (By Aldaco12). When you talk about images must think on SECTORS not on DATA SIZE. The rules are: 1) A standard 74 min CD is made by 333,000 sectors. 2) Each sector is 2352 bytes big, and contains 2048 bytes of PC (MODE1) Data, 2336 bytes of PSX/VCD (MODE2) Data or 2352 bytes of AUDIO. 3) The difference between secor size and data content are the Headers info and the Error Correction Codes, that are big for Data (High precision required), small for VCD (Standard for video) and none for audio. 4) If you extract data in RAW format (Standard for creating images) you always extract 2352 bytes per sector, not 2048/2336/2352 bytes depending on data type (Basically, you extract the whole sector). This fact has two main consequences: a) You can record data at very high speed (50x) without losing information, but if you try to do the same with PSX or Audio you get unreadable CD (For PSX) od audio CD with lots of clicks because there are not error correction codes (And error are more likely to occur if you record at high speed). b) On a 74 min CD you can fit very large RAW images,up to 333,000 x 2352 = 783,216,000 bytes (747 Mb). This should be the upper limit for a RAW image created from a 74 min CD. Remember that if you store standard data (Backup files), you can burn only 333,000 x 2048 = 681,984,000 bytes (The well known 650 MB limit). Please note that an image size is ALWAYS a multiple of 2352 bytes (You extract SECTORS), if extracted in RAW mode. Regards, Cryonic.
  4. Hi @Spaceboard, Thank you for the link ;) What is the TDV-Disk ? Was it, or is it a ECA-CDROM product ? Do you mean the ECA VRT-Disk ? If it is the "ECA VRT-Disk 2005" you are looking for, then you can download it via eMule. Search ("Global" and "Any"): "ECA Disk" (89 hits) or "ECA" (Very messy, 534 hits) Additional information (According to peers, these files are fakes or have no serial): "Eca - Vrt 2005 (Completo) By Posada.nrg" (644.65 MB) is a fake, it's an AVI-file. "eca_vrt-disk 2005.mdf" (787.06 MB) has no serial number. Also make shore you download all the serials in the TXT-files (14 to 600 Bytes), just in case. "eca_vrt-disk-2005.iso" (658.75 MB) "ECA VRT-Disk 2004 Imagen CloneCD + Serial.zip" (300.58 MB) "ECA vrt-disk 2002 semiconductor data base.img" (738.80 MB) All came in like a bomb ! :o Instalation of ECA CDROM Programs: Warning !!! Don't connect to the Internet while installing ECA programs, and don't agree to updates or any other kind of connection mode, for these programs will then become useless !!! :'( Enjoy ! Cryonic.
  5. Hi Guys, Thank you all so much for the warm comments you have given me relating to my post. I really appreciate this, and feel privileged to be a member of this Forum with such nice people ;) @Ante, I had put the word "rub" between quotes, meaning that you should not take it literately. More than once, have you given hints in your posts to your affection towards electronics of nostalgia. It was clear to me that you would like these old books, just like I do. I am only slightly younger than you are, and we are both "products" of the "flower power era". But I think that we were both too young in those days to have maturely participated in the "movement". Also the drug scenes of those days, past by before I even knew that they existed. I suppose that the majority of us in the West were not involved in this kind of scene. Even Bill Clinton, who is much older than we are, did not get involved. Remember what he said; "I only took a little puff, but did not inhale" and "No,... I only smoked that cigar",... gosh I miss this guy ! What a hell of a poker player must he have been ;D To keep this post a little bit electronics related, here you have an excellent link page (Lots of downloads !): General Tube Related and Hifi Links: http://www.triodeel.com/tlinks.htm This just caught my eye on this link page: Why transistors aren't much good for switching 50,000 amps at 20,000 volts in under 20 nS, or, Please Don't Install JFETS in Your A-Bomb Triggers. Discussion of high powered tube switching devices. Paseley's excellent page on high powered tube switching devices. Remark: Wasn't there a member who wanted to spot weld with this kind of current ?, for Paseley has the solution to the problem. (I had to correct the link to his page): http://nuclearweaponarchive.org/Library/Pasley1.html This one also caught my eye: Need schematics for old radios? Or just want to look at 'em, so you can see how stuff wuz done in the olden days? This site has 4000 pages of them on line...plus color code charts, etc....data on antique tube types: http://www.nostalgiaair.org Enjoy ! Cryonic.

  7. Hi @Ante, I sometimes try to think of time like if I was looking at a broken clock were it has been frozen, only much to my dismay, to wake up again out of my illusion to see that it was all just a dream after all. Sometimes, late at night when I feel that I am alone and nobody is watching me and things are nice and quiet, I go to the park. I then sit on a children's swing, and star into the infinite universe of beautiful stars and smell the sweet scent of perfumed flowers around. In this way I can swing back into time, looking at the stars turning round and round, and having the feeling of being naively young again like when I was a little boy. Having no worries, just experiencing the sensation of the wind wushing by, and to be overcome by this overwhelming sensation and feeling of joy and happiness. Maybe I am just a dreamer, for things just seam to be so perfect in this way. No suffering, no violence, no pain, no hunger, no hate, no greed, just being alone in this infinite universe of space, peace, freedom and all the beauty that mother nature has to display. How blind have we become, what a horror has mankind indulged them selves into. How nice must it be to stay ignorant of all that has become of us, and to only be able to see the beauty of all that surrounds us. I am actually not that old, but it's sometimes just those small things that count and add just that little extra dimension to life that makes one love to be alive. I thought you would like this web page, for it brings back old memories, doesn't it ? :'( Are you also such a tube fanatic as I am ?, the warmth, the glow in the dark, that velvet soft hum in the background, the spacyness, and all that "air" surrounding the instruments and vocals. I like to believe that no transistor or MOSFET can beat this, for they just seem to miss that little extra sensation that only a tube amp can give you. I have a few thousand of these miracle glass bulbs, and wouldn't want to miss them for a hundred fold of there weight in gold. No diamond can match up to there shine, for I feel that they are alive. One day, I will buy two big bare 5-10 kg silicium iron EI-cores, and will build myself a Williamson amplifier. I have the original transformer core winding data. I may however use a Radford faze splitter, but the sound will be the main determinant for this one. Williamson was far ahead of time with his philosophy and design approach, and maybe even by todays standards, it is still almost unbeatable in sound. Single ended triode amps can also have a hell of a good sound, despite there bad technical specs, overshoot and distortion. But then again, a discussion like this is like talking about the best tasting food. We will never all agree on this one, and always find something to complain and wine about, and try to prove our own and personal point of view as being better than that of others. ;) Just a few links, to "rub" you back into the "good old days" ;D Dave's Homemade Tube Radios (Please check out his links !): http://www.schmarder.com/radios/tube/ A sunset is beautiful, a newborn baby is beautiful, but these books are absolutely fantastic ! ;D DIY Audio Home (Technical books online! ~ 1,043 megabytes and growing!) :o: http://www.pmillett.com/tecnical_books_online.htm Enjoy ! 14. Hi @Ante, Very true indeed, but when concerning frequency, coil dimensions and form, coil winding layout, core material type, dielectricum, capacity, conductor material type, skin effect, temperature etc., things become increasingly complex and blurred to visualize or to understand. But, I felt that this would have been deviating too much off of the simplicity of the "Current Capacities of Wire Gauges" table presented by @Um...Me123. By keeping things as simple as possible, transparency into a certain matter at hand may be enhanced, and confusion kept to a minimum. But you rightly make this an issue that makes this Forum so interesting, rather than to see the horizon as an end point of visualization, only to be seen as the starting point of even more possibilities and depth. Cryonic.

  16. Hi @Ante, Thank you for the offer, but I already have many books on this subject, however not of such a practical nature as the above mentioned. Providing a lot of "rules of thumb", I thought would have been useful to our members though. It will take me several month, before I get round to sorting out all my backed up information. It is spread out over several high capacity external hard drives, and is unsorted and nearly all files have to be properly renamed too. Eventually I will make a text file available of all the electronics related information that I have gathered, in the form of; article/book title, volume, edition, writer, publisher, date, number of scans, format & size. The same also has to be done to several thousand files related to other subjects. Maybe there will be something of interest to our members here, that eventually when sorted out, can be made available via an upload to the Forum. I am going to be down for a few days now, for my hard drives are full and have to be sorted out and backed up. Regards, Cryonic.
  17. Hi @Um...Me123, This is the same answer that @Ante has already given, but with some practical examples added. When you read the label on a mains power supply extension cord which can be rolled up, you will be able to see two maximum values. When rolled up, the maximum power in Watts (and thus current, because the mains voltage stays the same) that is allowed, is always lower than that which you will see when fully unrolled. The reason for this is that heat may more easily be dissipated to the surrounding air than if it were rolled up and encapsulated. The same effect also plays a role when you wind your own transformer, for this encapsulated coil will not be able to dissipate heat as efficiently as wire surrounded by air only. Wire of coils of oil filed transformers on the other hand, may carry higher currents per square inch of coil wire than that of air cooled transformers used in consumer products. So, the open air ratings of this "Current Capacities of Wire Gauges" table may not be used for tightly wound or encapsulated wire, all other information stays unchanged. Cryonic.
  18. Hi @Ante, You've got my number, and I also wear a Cap with three Tulips sticking out, smoke a Porcelain Pipe, and under my left arm, carry a huge lump of Cheese, and with my right hand, use my fingers to clog up a hole in a leaking Dyke. I suppose, I never really wanted to become a "polished up" James Bond, driving at 110 miles per hour in an Aston Martin through a crowded London inner city center while enjoying a Fish and Chips meal and drinking a Cup of Tea with two blazing Sten Guns after all ;D Cryonic.

  20. Problem solved ! I have cleared: History Saved Forms Download History Cookies Cache I had installed the English Firefox version "default", and left it that way. After the above mentioned operations had been performed, all went again as smooth as a "Talcum powder powdered baby bum". Now, ... you won't be thinking bad things about me, ... will you ? ;D Here you have the last update of the English version of this award winning browser "Firefox Setup 1.5.0.1.exe", as "Firefox Setup 1.5.0.1.rar", the download is added as attachment below. 21. Here you have the contents and download page: http://services.eng.uts.edu.au/~venkat/pe_html/contents.htm Everything looks fine (no strange characters to be seen) and the interactive menu runs like it is meant to do. I still think that your browser is not rightly configured for this web page. No problemos, here you have the zipped version: Interactive Power Electronics (1999).zip, the download is added as attachment below. Remark: Something interesting has happened. Two days ago I had installed the updated Dutch Firefox, instead of the English one I had always worked with. Everything went fine, and now that I have installed the updated English version of Firefox, I too can't get the web page. I am working on this problem, and will report back soon ! Cryonic. 22. Hi @Ante, I have just tried them out again, and there seems to be no problem. Maybe your browser has the "hicks", for I am using Mozilla Firefox version 1.5.0.1 (Updated). Regards, Cryonic.
  23. Request for the following book: Lowden, Eric, Practical transformer design handbook, 2nd ed., Tab Books, Blue Ridge Summit, 1989, ISBN 0-8306-3212-3. About this book: This is a fairly useful book dealing with transformer design at a practical level without much theoretical detail. It includes information you need to know on how to figure out what that surplus transfomer is, or to make/modify one from scratch. It takes the theoretical design information and puts it in a practical context, as well as providing a lot of "rules of thumb". This would be a nice book for the dumpster diving engineer :) Thanks in advance ! Cryonic, all time champion dumpster diver ;D
  24. It may also be possible to use two starter motor relays to change the polarity, and only one MOSFET as PWM motor driver. Just throwing in my dumpster diving rock bottom penny broke approach. And if you insist on using an H-Bridge, then you may find these links usefull: Power control, with H-Bridge concepts and schematics in design: http://users.pandora.be/educypedia/electronics/powercontrol.htm H-Bridge Controller IC for Automotive DC Motors (Datasheet is also available): http://www.irf.com/product-info/auto/autohbridge.html Brief H-Bridge Theory of Operation (Good links): http://www.dprg.org/tutorials/1998-04a/index.html Voltage Spikes in FET based H-bridges - By Chuck McManis - 2002 (Please read this, very informative !): http://www.mcmanis.com/chuck/robotics/projects/esc2/hbridge_spiking.html Motor and General Control Schematics (Links to some good sites): http://hobbyprojects.com/quick_circuits_reference/motor_and_general_control_schematics.html You can also Google: "MOSFET H-Bridge Schematic" Remark: Many designs I have seen on the Internet lack sufficient protection of MOSFET's against induction spikes caused by the Motor. They are easily destroyed by insufficient precautions against this, especially via feedback into the Gate of the MOSFET. Success with your project ! Cryonic.
