Reading and writing an EEPROM through a PC printer or serial port

Recommended Posts

I am using PonyProg2000.

I am trying to modify the small 8 pin EEPROM on a toner cartidge chip:

I have found a number of circuit schematics for a device that might work:

http://www.porlidas.gr/EPROM/EepPrgmEN.htm

and

http://www.chiprecharge.com/hardeng.html

I have tried the simple (1 resistor) version of the parallel port device on the second web page but, probably not surprisingly, it didn't work with PonyProg2000.

I was going to try the circuit on the former webpage.

Can anyone guide me as to which of these few circuits is likely to work?

And can you tell me what sort of protocol I would need to select in PonyProg2000 setup and also what device I would need to select....presumeably one of the I2C bus 8 bit devices.
