abador
I have been looking for a solder tip but after buying one at radio shack then returning it because it was too big, stopping at two stores and calling a third one I have not found one that works. I would prefer to not pay a large shipping fee, one or two dollars at most but free shipping would be much preferred. I have a Weller SP23 and it's 23 watt (it also has another number on it that says 336B.) Does anyone have any recommendations on retailers? redwire
When you say the RS iron was too big were you referring to the size or wattage. I know they sell a 15w iron compared to your Weller 23-25w iron. The tips for the Weller are only about $3-4 on the internet, so I doubt free shipping is going to be offered. abador
The size was too big but as I later found out, the wattage was too high as well. (40 watts)
abador
I ended up buying a $5 iron from Walmart instead. I hope it will last at least a year and serve me well (despite the price.) Thanks for your input.
Hero999
I doubt it will last a year but good luck with it.You really need a temperature controlled iron. You can substitute this with a cheap plug-in lamp dimmer but the iron's wattage may be too low.
Silent Jack
What would you consider an optimal wattage for general usuage?
Hero999
Ideally as high as possible but there comes a point when the element is too big. I'd say 50W is good for a general purpose iron.
