The AIC8800 Wi-Fi 6 USB Adapter is an AX300 USB adapter based on the AIC8800 chipset, the more adept sells on Aliexpress for under $3 and can be considered one of the cheapest Wi-Fi 6 USB Adapters that can be found on the market. The adapter only supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and does not support 5GHz, but despite its limitations, it offers a cost-effective way to add WiFi 6 capabilities to devices.

The AIC8800 chipset from AICSemi powers this WiFi 6 USB adapter, offering speeds of up to 286.8 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band. It supports MU-MIMO and OFDMA technologies and functions as a station, access point, or in WiFi Direct mode. While it provides WEP and WPA/WPA2 security, it lacks WPA3. The adapter connects via a USB 2.0 port and measures 196mm with the antenna. It’s designed to operate in humidity levels ranging from 5% to 95% (noncondensing), with storage humidity tolerance up to 90% (noncondensing).

The Aliexpress listing states drivers are available for Windows 7/10/11. This AIC8800 chipset is also found in the Tenda W311MI v6.0 and Tenda U2 v5.0, both of which have available Linux drivers. These drivers may work with other AIC8800 adapters, potentially requiring USB Vendor and Product ID adjustments. While the W311MI v6.0 is hard to find, the BrosTrend AX5 on Amazon appears similar. Note that older W311MI versions only support WiFi 4. Additionally, there are variations of the AIC8800 chipset, such as the AIC8800D in the Avaota A1 SBC, which offers dual-band WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4, unlike the 2.4GHz-only version in this adapter.

AICSemi offers various WiFi 6 chipsets, including dual-band and single-band options with Bluetooth 5.2. However, detailed information about features like TWT support is lacking on their website. Notably, WPA3 security isn’t mentioned. A datasheet released by Pine64 on June 26, 2024, for the AIC8800DC confirms support for WPA3SAE Personal and TWT.
