Arduino Portenta Proto Kit ME is Designed to Accelerate Prototyping for Industrial IoT Applications
Arduino has recently introduced the Arduino Portenta Proto Kit ME at CES 2025. The kit is designed to simplify prototyping for industrial IoT applications. It provides a complete hardware and software solution with connectivity and sensor capabilities.
The most interesting thing about this announcement is that this mouthful of a product is not new. Still, it’s based around the Portenta H7 development board, Mid Carrier board, various “Modulino nodes” (Movement, Distance, Thermo, Knob, Buzzer, Pixels, Buttons), and off-the-shelf parts such as a 4G LTE and GNSS module. The company also mentions that it will come with three months of Arduino Cloud access to get you started. These features and modular design make this device suitable for Applications including environmental sensing, motion detection, vision-based projects, and industrial IoT.
The Arduino Pro Portenta Proto Kit is built around the Portenta H7 board, which is powered by an STMicro STM32H747 dual-core MCU (Cortex-M7 @ 480 MHz + Cortex-M4 @ 200 MHz) for advanced processing and ML workloads. It includes the Portenta Mid Carrier with gigabit Ethernet, USB, MIPI CSI, camera connectors, CAN Bus, mPCIe, and GPIO headers. The kit also features the Nicola Sense ME module, based on Nordic’s nRF52832 MCU with Bosch motion and environmental sensors for real-time sensing and predictive maintenance. Additional components include a full set of Modulino nodes and Proto Shield for I2C-based modular prototyping, a 4G GNSS module with global cellular and GPS support, and a three-month Arduino Cloud for Business voucher for data storage, visualization, and analysis.
Like any other Arduino board this board can also be programmed with Arduino IDE and the company mentioned that it will come this the Enterprise Prototyping with Portenta Proto Kit ME (ACE-220) which is freely available till January 31, 2025. The course covers hardware details, using Arduino Cloud, Nicla Sense ME, and Modulino modules, with additional resources available on the documentation website.
The Arduino Portenta Proto Kit ME can be purchased directly from the Arduino Store for around $388 or €437,98.
