The HiFive Premier P550 will eventually support Canonical Ubuntu 24.04, with Linux 6.6 or later, through a collaboration between SiFive and Canonical. Initially, the board will ship with a custom Yocto-based Linux distribution, which does not support the on-board graphics processor. For users requiring GPU support, an AMD RX500 or HD6000 PCI Express GPU will be needed until the full Ubuntu release becomes available. The board also supports Freedom U-SDK, OpenSBI, and U-Boot, along with popular system developer packages, GCC and LLVM toolchains, and performance tools for optimization.

This collaboration emphasizes the core principles of RISC-V, focusing on openness and community-driven development. Once Ubuntu Linux is fully integrated, the Premier P550 will serve as a powerful platform for cutting-edge RISC-V development, providing a comprehensive set of tools to enhance performance and facilitate optimization.

SiFive first unveiled the RISC-V mini-DTX motherboard last April with limited details. However, at the RISC-V Summit North America, the company announced that an initial pre-release batch of 100 Yocto-ready boards (headless unless a discrete GPU is connected) is now available for $599 through Arrow Electronics.
