The R2 Max is a consumer-grade open-source firewall and mini server designed with a focus on network interface compatibility and efficient thermal management. It is powered by the Alder Lake-N i3-N305 8-core, 8-thread processor, and supports up to 48GB of DDR5 4800MHz memory via a single SO-DIMM slot. The device features two 10GbE ports, utilizing Marvell’s AQC113C-B1-C chip with multi-speed auto-negotiation (10M/100M/1G/2.5G/5G/10G), alongside two Intel i226-V 2.5Gbps ports, providing robust network connectivity.

Storage options include two M.2 NVMe slots (2242/2280) and a TF card slot with support for system booting. The R2 Max also offers versatile connectivity through two USB-A 3.2 5Gbps ports and a USB-C 3.2 Gen2 10Gbps port, which supports display output (eDP 1.4a), data transfer, and power input/output. For video output, it features both an HDMI 2.0 and USB-C port, both capable of 4K@60Hz resolution. While the USB-C port offers multiple functions similar to USB4, it does not support full USB4 capabilities due to PCIe limitations in the processor.

Previously, we’ve covered several mini servers like the Raspberry Pi NODE Mini Server V3, Node Mini Server, Seeed Studio reServer, and Turing Pi 2.5. If you’re interested in similar products, feel free to check them out.
