The BSerial interface is part of iLabsBConnect concept, which includes Bi2C, BSerial, and BSpi for device connectivity using a small Flexible Flat Cable (FFC) and FFC connector. While Bi2C utilizes the I2C protocol, BSerial employs an asynchronous serial communication channel, enabling fast and straightforward integration of modules into systems for serial data transmission.

The integrated GPS module features the uBlox MAX M8W GPS module with an onboard ceramic patch antenna, an 18 dB low-noise amplifier (LNA), and an SAW filter for improved signal quality and accuracy. Designed for seamless integration, it connects via the BSerial-04 interface, eliminating the need for an external power supply and ensuring quick and reliable GPS functionality with other iLabs products.

Previously, we covered GPS modules like the u-blox MIA-M10 and UBLOX NEO-6M. Feel free to explore those options if you’re looking for alternative GPS modules.

The modules provide high integration and flexible connectivity options in a compact design, making them suitable for industrial applications with strict size and cost requirements. The I²C-compatible DDC interface ensures easy and reliable connectivity with most u-blox cellular modules.

The u-blox MAX-M8 modules also utilize the u-blox AssistNow service, which improves performance by supplying GNSS broadcast parameters such as ephemeris, almanac, time, and rough position. This reduces the time to first fix and enhances acquisition sensitivity. The extended validity of AssistNow Offline (up to 35 days) and AssistNow Autonomous (up to 3 days) ensures faster acquisition even after long periods of inactivity.

The company offers a short Arduino example code to demonstrate one way of handling GPS data. Additionally, numerous libraries are compatible with the onboard uBlox MAX-M8 GPS module. The iLabs BSerial GPS module is available for purchase on the official iLabs store for $40.11, with more details provided on the product page.
