In an attempt to revolutionize the router industry, MangoPi launches one of its first RISC-V-based Router Boards with ArtInChip D213ECV 64-bit RISC-V processor, 28 MB DDR3 RAM, 256MB SPI NAND flash. Prices at US $39.14, this little 5 x 5cm device could be a game changer.
Measuring just 5 x 5cm (about 2″ x 2″), this Tiny RISC-V Router Board Features the ArtInChip D213ECV 64-bit RISC-V processor, 128MB DDR3 RAM clocked at 672 MHz. Besides that, it supports two Gigabit Ethernet ports, two USB 2.0 ports, GPIO Header, and many more.
In terms of software support, MangoPi says that they are working on working on getting OpenWrt up and running with the board. But with the specs onboard, running other Linux distros onto it is possible.
As Jean-Luc at CNX Software mentions, there was a time when MIPS processors dominated the market. But in recent years, ARM-based RISC-V processors have taken over the space. This could very well be the beginning of a new era, but it’s very early to tell.
