NXP just made a new chip called the Trimension SR250 IC using ultra-wideband (UWB) technology and radar to help things know where they are and is good for home automation and industrial use. Operates at 6 GHz – 8.5 GHz, it provides secure 3D ranging Angle of Arrival (AoA), Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA), and motion sensing, enabling new experiences in asset tracking, home automation, and industrial safety. With UWB technology, the SR250 achieves precise location accuracy of ±5 cm, supporting features like hands-free home access, appliance control, access management, and dangerous zone detection.

The SR250’s on-chip radar processing lowers power use, boosting efficiency, and it can run AI/ML algorithms on host processors like NXP’s i.MX, RW61x, and MCX families. Supported by firmware, middleware, and sample apps, it simplifies development. It is used in smart automation projects (for example home or kitchen automation), secure access, safety monitoring, and industrial tasks like worker tracking, collision avoidance, and danger zone detection. Development support is provided through SDKs for evaluation and development kits.

Previously we have not written anything about a Radar IC. But we have seen some products regarding Radar like the Infineon Technologies DEMOBGT60LTR11AIP, GRA115Q 3U VPX GPU board, the RoomSense IQ, and many more. Feel free to check those out if you are interested in the topic.
