Palmshell SLiM X4L is a portable Intel-based Mini- PC

Due to technological advancements, the space required by electronics is reducing drastically with time. Portable devices are preferred because of their ease of use. The Palmshell SLiM X4L is a compact mini PC with a form factor that fits easily into workspaces or travel setups. Its primary focus is on performance, portability, and connectivity. This mini PC can be used for various applications, from office tasks to academic presentations and multimedia usage.

SLiM X4L is an Intel N100 based miniPC

The Palmshell SLiM X4L uses an Intel N100 quad-core processor with a base frequency of 2.0 GHz and a burst frequency of 3.4 GHz. Intel N100 has four threads, further improving the efficiency of the four cores. It supports most of the Operating Systems with the X86 architecture. Moreover, the board is equipped with Thermal Design Power (TDP) of 6W. Additionally, it has a 7000 RPM speed-controlled fan with an intelligent temperature-controlled airflow design for cooling under heavy workloads. This keeps the device temperature down without compromising performance and keeping the noise levels at a minimum. The SLiM X4L uses LPDDR5 which consumes less power than traditional DDR and is capable of carrying out 4800 Mega Transfers per second. The NVM Express for SSD provides better multitasking capabilities and consumes less power while they are idle. The memory specifications available with the board are:

  • 8GB LPDDR5 with a 256GB NVMe SSD.
  • 16GB LPDDR5 with a 512GB NVMe SSD.
  • 32GB LPDDR5 with a 1024GB NVMe SSD.

SLiM X4L’s peripherals

The connectivity options available with SLiM X4L support most of the devices in a workplace. These include USB ports, USB Type-C ports, an audio jack, HDMI, and optional VESA mount brackets for attaching the board to the back of a monitor. These are the specifications for ports available:

  • 3 USB 3.0 ports and 1 USB 2.0 port for connecting external devices like storage drives, keyboards, and mice.
  • 1 USB Type-C port supporting 12V/3A direct input or USB PD power delivery.
  • 3.5mm audio jack for audio input/output support.
  • Additional buttons:
    • Power Button.
    • Recovery (R) Button.
    • Status LED for system status indication.
  • Dual HDMI 2.0 outputs

The Intel Ultra HD Graphics provides high-quality visuals, while the HDMI outputs support up to 4K resolution at 60Hz on two displays simultaneously.

The SLiM X4L has multiple networking options like WiFi, Bluetooth, and Ethernet. Compared to SLiM X2L, the WiFi channel width and Bluetooth Maximum Data Transfer Ratepeeds have increased by 100% with WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. The Ethernet port (RJ45) can provide up to 2.5 Gigabits/s. Because of these features, SLiM X4L can be used in applications like Gaming and Content Creation, where multitasking is of utmost importance.

Moreover, the SLiM X4L has additional accessories such as an Optional VESA mount bracket for attaching to the back of a monitor and a Kensington Lock. It is available on AliExpress, starting at $135 for the 8GB/128GB variant. Note that the device does not come pre-installed with licensed software, but users have the flexibility to install their preferred operating system, including Roobi OS. This is particularly advantageous for those not using Windows 11 and already owning a USB-C power adapter. For example, the 8GB/256GB model of the SLiM X4L is priced at $136.86 on AliExpress.

However, if you prefer a complete package that includes Windows 11 and all necessary accessories, a device such as the GEEKOM Mini Air12 Lite might be a more convenient option at $179.10. For more information, you can explore the Palmshell SLiM X4L product page or check out its AliExpress listing.
