PineNote Community Edition Affordable E-Paper Tablet with Rockchip RK3566 for Linux Developers
Pine64 has recently launched the PineNote Community Edition this November, a cutting-edge e-paper tablet designed primarily for Linux developers with expertise in embedded systems and mobile Linux. Featuring a 10.3-inch 16-level grayscale e-paper display with a resolution of 1404 x 1872 (227 DPI), it supports Wacom EMR pen input, capacitive multi-touch, and a 36-level front light for blue and amber illumination. Powered by the efficient Rockchip RK3566 quad-core processor (Cortex-A55, clock speed of 1.8GHz), it comes with 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM, 128GB of eMMC storage, stereo speakers, four microphones, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, and Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity. The device includes a USB-C port with 15W quick charging for its 4000mAh battery and offers portrait/vertical orientation via a gyroscopic sensor. It ships with an EMR pen, protective cover, and user manual, aiming at tasks like note-taking, document editing, book reading, web browsing, and terminal usage.
Previously, we have written about some similar Linux-based tablets like the PineNioe Developer Edition and Juno Tab 3. We have also covered some Rockchip RK3566-based products including the URVE Board A55, the Geniatech XPI-3566 Zero, the Quartz64 Zero SBC, and many more. The PineNote Community Edition runs on a community-developed OS and is regarded by PINE64 as a BETA product. According to the company, it is specifically designed for Linux developers with expertise in embedded systems or mobile Linux. Developers can refer to the PineNote Development page for resources on mainline Linux support, including details on mainlining progress, system setup, and firmware configuration.
As far as I understand, the PineNote features a durable and lightweight body made of polymer and PMMA, offering a sleek design available in white and black. Users will receive a PineNote tablet, an EMR pen for precise input, a protective cover, a USB-A to USB-C charging cable, and a Quick Start User Manual for easy setup. Notably, it is a beta-phase product targeted at early adopters and requires separate shipment due to lithium-ion battery shipping restrictions.
The PineNote Community Edition is now available for purchase at $399.00, the same price as the Developer Edition on the PINE64 website, with shipments beginning mid-November 2024.
