Somu – tiny FIDO2 security key

A tiny FIDO2 security key for two-factor authentication and passwordless login

Somu is a tiny FIDO2 security key, that you can use on your Google, Twitter, Github account for two-factor authentication, or on your Microsoft account for passwordless login. Somu fits in your USB port, so you’ll never forget your key again.

Somu is the micro version of Solo. We were inspired to make a secure Tomu, so we took its tiny form factor, we added the secure microcontroller and firmware of Solo, et voilà! Here we have Somu

Like many other FIDO2 security keys on the market, Somu works seamlessly with your Google, Twitter, and GitHub accounts for two-factor authentication, or with your Microsoft account for passwordless login. Somu fits in your USB port, so you’ll never forget your key again. And FIDO2 / WebAuthn is now a web standard, so you don’t need any extension whatsoever, Somu just works on most operating systems and browsers.

This campaign is designed for hackers and makers who want to add FIDO2/WebAuthn to their website, develop secure webapps or learn more about STM32 development.During the campaign we sell Somu for $30 or less and offer FREE shipping everywhere for pledges of 3 Somu or more. Somu is ready for production and we’ll start manufacturing as soon as we reach the goal of $35k (and not at the end of the campaign), so hurry up and back Somu!

Pledges start from $25 and campaign has 50 days to go.

How to Use I2C EEPROM with Arduino

Expand your board’s storage with an I2C-enabled EEPROM chip.

EEPROM stands for Electronically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory. It allows for values to be written and stored for long periods of time while using very little power. Most microcontrollers even have EEPROM directly in their circuitry, such as the ATmega328P (Arduino Uno chip), which has 1KB of it. But what if that’s not enough? SD cards have much greater storage sizes, but are also more complex, physically larger, and use more power. In this tutorial, I will show how easy it is to add another 2KB of non-volatile storage to a project with the 24C02 EEPROM IC.

Samsung reveals 108Mp Image Sensor for Smartphones

Samsung Electronics introduced the 108 megapixel (Mp) Samsung ISOCELL Bright HMX, the first mobile image sensor in the industry to go beyond 100 million pixels. With the latest addition, Samsung will expand its 0.8μm image sensor offerings from its recently announced ultra-high 64Mp to 108Mp, a resolution equivalent to that of a high-end DSLR camera. Samsung ISOCELL Bright HMX is a mobile image sensor and is the result of close collaboration between Xiaomi Corp. and Samsung.

With over 100 million effective pixels enabling extremely sharp photographs rich in detail, the ISOCELL Bright HMX also produces exceptional photos even in extreme lighting conditions. Being the first mobile image sensor to adopt a large 1/1.33-inch size, the HMX can absorb more light in low-lit settings than smaller sensors and its pixel-merging Tetracell technology allows the sensor to imitate big-pixel sensors, producing brighter 27Mp images. In bright environments, the Smart-ISO, a mechanism that intelligently selects the level of amplifier gains according to the illumination of the environment for optimal light-to-electric signal conversion, switches to a low ISO to improve pixel saturation and produce vivid photographs. The mechanism uses a high ISO in darker settings that helps reduce noise, resulting in clearer pictures. For advanced filming, the HMX supports video recording without losses in field-of-view at resolutions up to 6K (6016 x 3384) 30-frames-per-second (fps).

Samsung first announced its ISOCELL technology in 2013, which reduces color-cross talk between pixels by placing a physical barrier, allowing small-sized pixels to achieve higher color fidelity. Based on this technology, Samsung introduced the industry’s first 1.0um-pixel image sensor in 2015 and 0.9-pixel sensor in 2017. In June 2018, Samsung introduced an upgraded pixel isolation technology, the ISOCELL Plus

PSRR of low dropout voltage regulators

Here’s an app note about PSRR of LDO from Microchip.

The Power Supply Rejection Ratio is the ability of a device, such as a Low Dropout Voltage regulator, to reject the various perturbations that can be found in its input supply rail by providing a greatly attenuated signal at the output. Generally, the main source of the perturbation will be the output ripple of the DC/DC converters that typically power LDOs.

High PSRR LDOs are recommended for powering line ripple sensitive devices such as: RF applications, ADCs/DACs, FPGAs, MPUs, and audio applications.

One important clarification must be made: PSRR is NOT the same with output noise. PSRR is a measure of rejection. It shows what the part will output based on the given input.

Bridegtek’s PanL Technology Set to Redefine How We Interact with Our Living & Working Spaces

13th August 2019 – Bridgetek is taking the ground-breaking PanL smart automation platform to the next key stage in its development, ready for widespread deployment to begin. Those attending the Smart Cities & Buildings Asia event this year (Singapore, 4th-6th September) will be able to see real-word examples of how this highly versatile technology can benefit various aspects of our day-to-day lives.

The key demonstrations being conducted by the team on the Bridgetek booth (2-J18) will be as follows:

PanL Smart Living – Via which users are able to control connected appliances within the home (or in a hotel room or office environment) through a single all-encompassing hub with one consolidated human machine interface (HMI) that can be accessed by intuitive touch-enabled display units. This eliminates the need for multiple dedicated controls or separate smartphone apps (each with their own different layout) for every specific function (such as lighting, heating, air conditioning and environment monitoring), as one single unit or smartphone app can be employed. There is also a great deal of scope for integration of third party technology. Thanks to PanL’s integration with the Amazon Alexa digital assistant solution, hands-free voice control can be enjoyed too.

PanL Room Manager – Where meeting rooms located inside an office building can be booked using an intelligent allocation system that maximizes operational efficiency and ensures available resources are fully utilized. This allows users to check the status of a particular room, find out when it is due to be occupied, see which member of staff booked it, make alterations to existing bookings, etc. Access to the room can be gained by entering a passcode on the associated HMI unit or through the RFID functionality incorporated (triggering it with an employee identity card). The automatic room release feature can help reduce no-shows and early sign-offs, so that room space is not needlessly wasted. It also means that those responsible for such practices can be flagged to the office administrator. The software connects directly with Microsoft Outlook, allowing users to book meeting rooms through their calendar (via either a desktop/laptop computer or a handheld electronic device).

PanL Desk Manager – Brand new to Bridgetek, this is a solution that responds to the growing trend in the modern office environment of ‘hot desking’. It presents a simple to implement, fully-scalable mechanism for assigning shared desk space to staff members. Available areas can quickly be indicated to the user, then booked accordingly (via a QR code). By analysis of the data generated, the office administrator can tell how often resources are being utilized (so that more desk space can be invested in, if demand requires). It can also give valuable insight into booking behavior, etc.

Visit the Bridgetek booth at Smart Cities & Buildings Asia and find out how PanL could make a difference to your life. You can also get more information by going to: http://panl.brtchip.com

32 band audio visualizer using an ATTiny85

“attiny85-spectrum” is a 32 band audio visualizer using an ATTiny85 and an SSD1306 OLED display. Built in Arduino.

The goal of this project is to get smooth, appealing music visualization on the ATTiny85, optimizing around its limited speed and resources (RAM and program memory). Its on ongoing personal project right now which I mean to add to later (outside help is welcome!), but it’s otherwise fully functional and ready to be flashed. Some special steps are required, however, and will be listed below.
