The ST67W611M1 is a Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth Low Energy 5.3, and Thread combo coprocessor module developed by STMicroelectronics in collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies. This module integrates flawlessly with STM32 microcontrollers or microprocessors, offering robust connectivity and support for the Matter protocol, making it ideal for future-proof IoT applications.

Key features include up to 20 dBm output power, 4 MB embedded flash with OTA updates, a 40 MHz crystal, hardware cryptographic acceleration, and PSA Level One certification. Fully integrated with the STM32Cube ecosystem, it simplifies development with minimal software effort and fast time-to-market. Targeted applications include smart homes, industrial IoT, and smart appliances, with long-term support through a 10-year longevity program. An RF-certified X-NUCLEO-67W61M1 expansion board and STM32Cube tools ensure streamlined hardware and software integration.

Previously, we have covered some products with Wi-Fi 6 and BLE modules including the NXP RW612 MCU, the Espressif ESP32-C5 SoC, the Dialog Semiconductor DA16600, and many more. Compared to those products, the ST67W611M1 is far better and much faster in every way.

STMicroelectronics ST67W611M1 Module Specifications:

  • Processor: Based on a Qualcomm Technologies chip
  • Wireless Connectivity:
    • Wi-Fi 6 with up to 20 dBm output power
    • Bluetooth Low Energy 5.3 with up to Mbps
    • Thread combo with Matter protocol support
  • Storage: Embedded 4MB flash memory with OTA update capability
  • Hardware:
    • Embedded 40 MHz crystal
  • Antenna: Integrated antenna/external antenna option
  • Interfaces:
    • SPI
    • UART
  • Security:
    • Integrated hardware cryptographic acceleration
    • secure boot and secure debug
  • Power Options: Supports low-power operation for battery-powered IoT devices
  • Dimensions: Compact module design (specific dimensions not mentioned)
  • Development Tools:
    • STM32CubeMX and STM32CubeIDE support
    • X-CUBE-ST67W61 expansion package
  • Certification:
    • PSA Certified Level One
    • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy certification targeted
  • Longevity: Included in a 10-year longevity program

After thoroughly reviewing the datasheet, I noticed that crucial details such as power specifications and dimensions are missing. Since the module is controlled via an AT Command set over SPI or UART, it should theoretically support other microcontrollers in addition to STM32 hosts, offering broader compatibility.

The company also mentioned that the upcoming X-NUCLEO-67W611M1 Nucleo expansion board is aimed at simplifying the development process. However, as of now, no detailed documentation is available, and only a low-quality image has been provided. Software support includes STM32CubeMX for code generation, the X-CUBE-ST67W61 package with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth drivers and examples, and STM32CubeIDE for development and debugging.

According to the company, the ST67W611M1 module is currently available for sampling, with mass production planned for early 2025. Pricing information has not been disclosed yet. Further details can be found on the STMicroelectronics website.
