Waterproof connectors eliminate mating misalignments

Yokowo touts the first waterproof blade and receptacle connectors with a floating contact design that eliminates mating misalignments in rugged applications.

Yokowo has claimed the first waterproof blade and receptacle connectors that are constructed with a floating contact design. The waterproof connectors with a spring-loaded, dual-beam contact system use a floating contact design that absorbs any mating misalignment, according to Yokowo. The new connectors are suitable for high vibration/high shock wet or washdown applications.

The TBR (receptable) and TBP (blade) Series connectors are designed for battery connections in rugged devices such as tablet PCs, data collection terminals, and drones. The connectors protect devices and batteries from water ingress damage to the internal electronic components with an IPX7 waterproof rating (submerged in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes),

In addition to eliminating mating misalignment issues, the floating contact design absorbs shock and vibrations, enabling a reliable power connection, said the company. The floating degree is +/-0.3 mm.

The design also features an isolated contact area that prevents short circuits between adjacent contacts. The contacts feature a 3-A current rating with 50-mΩ contact resistance. The connectors are rated for 2,000 mating cycles. The operating temperature range is -40℃ to 85℃. Samples are available on request.
